R.J. WEEKS

weeks-bucklandRussell James Weeks, son of John & Mary Elizabeth Weeks was born in 1907 in North Hill, Launceston. His father had been a chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. Very little is known about Russell. He married Elizabeth Chrissie before the Second World War. He joined the RAF (114426) and was killed 15 June 1942, aged 35.

He is buried at the Habbaniya War Cemetery in Irag. He left an estate worth £1769 13s 4d to his widow. The address given at the time was 4 Burnham Park Road, Peverell. When he died Elizabeth’s address was given as Yelverton. In 1951 she was certainly living at 10 Willowby Park. Later she moved to Willowby Lodge where she remained until she died in 1969 aged 62.

Despite being a Yelverton man he does not appear on the framed parchment within St Paul's Church but is commemorated on the Buckland Monachorum War Memorial, Buckland (above).
